With the boat being right side up now preparation to the top side is started. After all of the paint was completely stripped off repairs were made to the damaged areas and then were primed with "Matrix System Automotive Finishes" epoxy primer. The top side is prepared for painting but will wait until other work is completed. The U-22 team then tackled the important job of placing the new mounts inside the stringer walls for the turbine to sit on. The alignment is great and now the team is starting to prepare the rear cowling.

Flipping Is A Science:

When racing on the water flipping a boat is never a pleasant thought, but as the team prepared to turn the boat over in the garage you couldn't help but get that same uncomfortable feeling. When the boat weighs close to 6,000 lbs and measures 14 and a half feet wide the task of turning over one of these is no small feat, it is a science. Hours are spent calculating the loads that will be placed on the various lifting points, finding the right materials to make your turning implements, fabricating the pieces, measuring the correct lift heights, and then getting the skilled man power to assist in the process. As if those didn't present enough of a challenge add in the fact that you only have 16 foot ceilings. Sounds like a recipe for a cold sweat.

In the end the team performed like a group of savvy veterans and the boat went over with no complications. Now work can begin on the bottom of the boat to finish the newly installed belly pan and paint will follow. Video of the event will soon be available.
